[unsolicited]™, a sub brand, of CONSCIOUS DREAMERZ® was born as a literal cry for help.
When I made it, I was in a dark enough place to where I didn't think I would come back from. As an act of vulnerability, I decided I'd use art to tell people how hard of a time my spirit was having.
I wanted people to feel me, let alone hear me. There was so much pain that I was keeping to myself; there was so much I had to say that I wasn't saying.
Fast forward, It didn't do that well and that's ok. What it did do was make me a better artist. Vulnerability in your work is important; I find it is how you connect best with your audience. There's a reason why Kendrick Lamar's body of work can stand the test of time, even if he disappears for years. With grace, he dissects a shared human experience, and it’s always unfiltered; we see ourselves in his introspection.
That level of authenticity allows your audience to feel seen, understood. It may even provide hope that your life can improve; it can save lives.
